Since it first opened in , Brookfield Zoo has educated and captivated generations of families from around the world through discovery of animals and exploration of the natural world.

Today, the acre nature park is home to more than 5, animals and extensive conservation programs. Brookfield Zoo is open days a year from 10 am to 5 pm with extended hours for special events. Groups of 15 or more may purchase tickets in advance. Additional parking fees apply. Visitors can linger with the lions or the snow leopards along Big Cats row, marvel at marsupials outside of Australia House, go eye-to-eye with polar bears and bison in Great Bear Wilderness, learn about Atlantic bottlenose dolphins in Seven Seas, and more.

However, on our visit it was over 90 degrees, and they could still be found hopping around. Look for places where the animals have access to water, as that typically leads to more activity. As mentioned above, this includes the tigers, but also the seals and sea lions. We camped out there for a while, and they were very active. We would also recommend the nature trail around the pond, found behind the bears.

The only animals are in the natural scenery, like turtles, ducks, and chipmonks. However, it is a short path, and is completely in the shade. You come out on a trail by more animitronic dinosaurs on your way to the zebras.

One other animal callout is the anteater. The anteater can now be found outside in the middle of the zoo, outside the pachyderm house by the abandoned nature stage.

If you previously reserved tickets and parking for your zoo visit, you are welcome to enter the zoo at any time during that day. If you have a general admission pass with a barcode, a member guest pass, a Chicago Public Library Museum Pass, or a Museum Adventure Pass, you can bring that directly to the zoo for entry, no reservation required.

Members are currently not required to reserve a time for entry, while guests can purchase admission before arrival if they wish to avoid lines and waiting.
