Baystate marathon how many runners

Runner Comments. I have run this marathon, and I want to add my comments about it. Average Ratings: Course - Organization - Fans -. Not a flat course! The half and full start on opposite sides of the road which makes no sense because they then merge. Why not start one earlier? It was very crowded running the first couple miles and I almost ran into a wooden A frame sign in the middle of the road.

The signs were for cars entering from side roads which for some reason were not closed to traffic. One sign had been knocked over indicating someone ran into it. Why not close the side roads for an hour so the runners can get by? There were also cones in the middle of the road. Runners were yelling "sign" and "cone" so others wouldn't run into them. The roads were open for traffic for most of the course and there were stretches where the cones were only five feet from the side of the road leaving very little room to run.

I specifically picked this race because it's advertised as a flat course. It's not. There are rolling hills for a good chunk of the race. Miles and are the same rolling hills because you do two loops. I struggled on the hills with the wind and my legs were spent by Also, I ran tangents throughout the race as any experienced marathoner will do, but my GPS still said Just received the results and my gun time and net time are the same despite the fact that I crossed the starting line a minute after the start.

My only complaint, and reason for my 2 rating of course is that there are a lot of stretches during the race where runners had very little space sometimes the side of the road only and we were always going direction of traffic meaning that vehicles zipped past us from behind - if the road has to be shared, I do prefer facing traffic View of the bridge twice for marathoners was fantastic, though.

Separate starting lines for the full and half made the starting line easy. The course was fine, nothing great to look at and the roads weren't fully closed which made certain areas bottle neck. Water stations were lively and helpful.

They needed more bathrooms on the course 1 per water station. They also advertise the course as totally flat and that's a bit of a stretch as there were inclines in multiple areas. Overall run very well, they say it's a race for runners by runners and that is very easy to see. Flat and boring about: Course: 3 Organization: 4 Fans: 2 K. I really wanted to enjoy this, especially after reading so many positive comments about it.

After 7 days everyday one mile jog, My blood pressure became normal. After 3 month, I tried 5k. It was 25 min 40 sec. I was a little disappointed. I bought three books about how to running. Next year, practice m x 3 once a week for 3 month then I run 5k for 22 min. I love running now. Then I followed the running practice schedule for marathon from the books for 4 month.

Then run the first time marathon at Baystate and I got BQ. Time was 3 h 38 min. BQ time was 3h40min fro my age.

But this year, I just missed deadline for Boston marathon registration. I had only 2 weeks for practice before Baystate.

I was jogging 30k once a week after last year Baystate marathon. But my weight was 20 lb havier and much weaker muscle. Then I took a week rest before race. I have to try again next year. Baystate course is nice almost flat course.

Good for speed. Perfect for BQ. Running same course every year, I can learn many things. I just notice I need to change my form a lot. I will beat 3. Beat 8 min per mile. This was my second race! And my Boston qualifier for 2cond time, all the race was nice , very little hills and a little windy , some parts has nice … MORE.

If you're looking for a PR, want to be able to see your fan club multiple times, and like a community feel in your races, then Baystate is the race … MORE. I ran the half last year and loved it so much that I came back for the full. The race is incredibly well organized with predictable, regular, and enthusiastic water stops along the way. The full marathon loops twice, which makes it easy for spectators to see you numerous times throughout your race.

With local sponsors and schools so actively involved, you feel supported by the community. With the exception of a few short, steady inclines, the course is mostly flat, which helped me reach a 28 minute PR! You would not believe the enthusiasm of these spectators. I have never smiled so much throughout a race! From peanut butter sandwiches to hot soup to massages, the finish line accommodations at Baystate are top notch. I cannot wait to come back to this one!

The race has been around long enough so that folks know what to expect. Not really scenic, no gimmicks, but a well run race and a potential PR or BQ course.. Event was great. Porta-potties right at starting line, nice flat course, weather was good.

The course was a bit windy and they had trouble with the live tracker but other than that it was an excellent course race. I highly recommend this for a first-time marathon runner. I was leery about running a double loop race - but my friends all said 'you'll love it. Some of the loop was on a main road … MORE.

Some of the loop was on a main road without scenery — but the runs along the river more than made up for it. The best part were the volunteers at the aid stations — talk about infectious energy.

A local guy I wish I knew who it was! Water stops not bad and just the right amount. Crowd support was great! The races began and ended at the Tsongas Center. Prior to that, runners finished inside LeLacheur Park. Baystate, hosted by the Greater Lowell Road Runners, has long been considered one of the fastest marathon courses in the country, mainly because it features few hills along the Merrimack River, making it an attractive race for runners around the globe, many of whom run through Lowell, Chelmsford and Tyngsboro in order to qualify for the prestigious Boston Marathon.

The Baystate Marathon was first held in Lowell in In fact, two marathons were held that year. The marathon and half marathon were not held in due to the pandemic. By Barry Scanlon Lowell Sun.
